In addition to designing a method of body conditioning, Joe also designed a number of pieces of apparatus to support his work. He took these designs to Frank Gratz, who applied his metalwork and engineering expertise to build the equipment. Since then, Gratz Industries have manufactured Pilates apparatus' to Joe’s specific designs. They have been the industry’s established source of authentic Pilates equipment since 1929.
Despite the fact that the business is located in Philadelphia, their equipment can be found in studios worldwide where the classical method is taught. Teachers and students of the Pilates method understand the difference that is made to the body when working on the apparatus which Joe himself designed. Gratz apparatus is considered an indispensable part of our practice and Training. Cynthia Lochard’s Pilates Method Studio acts as the Australian distributor of Gratz Industries.
